Motorists Beware! Cycling fever grips the nation!

After a triumphant win in the Tour de France, closely followed by a gold medal in the Olympic Games, Bradley Wiggins has fast become the face of British cycling.  However, as cycling grows ever more popular, motorists are advised to prepare for the “Wiggins effect”.

Bradley Wiggins rode to gold medal glory in the first week of the Olympic Games, in a course which saw him ride from Hampton Court to Elmbridge and into the picturesque Surry hills.  As a consequence, motorists around the area have been warned to take care of extra cyclists taking to the roads to ride the Olympic cycle route.  Surrey Police tweeted “Planning a nice drive in the Surrey Hills? There will be more cyclists than usual out so expect them.”  They also urged cyclists to take care and reminded them that Bradley Wiggins had closed roads during the time trial.

According to campaigners and cycling clubs, the recent craze is set to spread to other parts of the UK as membership numbers rise and cycling heroes such as Bradley Wiggins and Sir Chris Hoy inspire people young and old to get on their bikes.

Beware of cyclists:

  •  Keep clear of any cycle lanes.
  • Take care when going round corners.
  • Always check your blind spot when turning or pulling out.
  • Take extra care on country roads and roads which are narrow.
  • Always give cyclists plenty of room when over-taking.

Proven Expertise

What’s My Claim Worth have successfully recovered £10,000 for a client who was involved in a road traffic accident involving a car.  The client was cycling across the entrance to a business, when the driver of the car failed to see our client and pulled out of the car park, knocking her off her bike.  The client sustained injuries to her wrist, elbow, neck and shoulders and suffered psychological injuries as she was too scared to ride her bike.  She recovered fully from the physical injuries but was unable to get back on her bike, which was reasonable in the circumstances.  Her costs were paid for by the defendant’s insurers as we were acting on a ‘no win no fee’ basis.
