Question If I have had an accident at work, could I get fired if I make a claim against my employer?

Answer

By law your employer is required to take out insurance against accidents such as yours. Typically your claim will be dealt with by your employer's insurance company so it is highly unlikely that you will lose your job or be victimised as a result. It is the insurance company who will pay your compensation, not your employer. If your employer does fire you for bringing a claim, this could amount to unfair dismissal.  Read more about Accidents At Work.

Question I was hit by an uninsured driver. Can I still make a claim?

Answer

Fortunately, there is an organisation called the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) which is funded by all of the motor insurance companies in the UK. Where a driver who has injured you is uninsured or can not be traced (hit and run) we still may be able to claim compensation on your behalf through the MIB scheme.
