Our client, Miss C received negligent beauty treatment when she paid for a course of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal.
Miss C had a tattoo on the inside of her wrist which should have been covered during the treatment. Also, the settings of the treatment should have been reduced because of the existence of the tattoo. Unfortunately, these protective measures were not taken by the beautician and as a result, Miss C suffered a burn injury to the inside of her wrist.
Following the treatment, Miss C was unhappy with the appearance of her tattoo and resultant scarring from the negligent treatment and contacted us. We sent our client to be examined by a Plastic Surgeon in relation to her burn injury who prepared a report confirming that due to the negligent treatment, missing pieces from the tattoo had left a scarred area in the shape of the letters of the tattoo and a ghosting of tattoo pigment with an area of uneven skin pigmentation within.
Cosmetic camouflage make-up
There were two possible treatment options available to Miss C: 1) Removal of the tattoo by laser treatment or 2) Application of cosmetic camouflage using make-up. The Plastic Surgeon advised that he did not think laser tattoo removal would be of benefit as she would still be left with ghosting. Miss C was awarded £7,500 for her pain, suffering and loss of amenity. In addition, she was able to recover future treatment costs in the sum of £4,500 to cover either laser tattoo removal or the skin camouflage make-up.
