Claim Against Restaurant Settles For £8,000

Our client, a 48 year old woman from the North-East of England injured her index finger when she was in a restaurant/bar about to enjoy a meal in Sunderland. Our client went to sit down at one of the dining tables and was trying to move her chair forward so that it was closer to the table but the chair was heavy to move. As she was trying to move the chair, the seat pad of the chair lifted up creating a gap which her right index finger went into and her finger became trapped. She sustained a nasty laceration to her index finger. The chair was defective. Our client attended hospital as the cut to her finger was quite deep and following examination it was decided the best way to treat our client was for her to have minor surgery which included removal of her nail. As part of her claim we arranged for our client to be examined by a Specialist Hand Surgeon who prepared a Medical Report on her injuries. Fortunately for our client she made a good recovery from her injuries. A claim for compensation was made to the owners of the restaurant who for a long time failed to respond.  Eventually after the threat of court proceedings they passed the matter to their Public Liability Insurers who upon reviewing the case admitted liability [responsibility] for the accident.
