EYE injury claims

Eye injuries range from minor afflictions which cause temporary discomfort to something more serious which may lead to permanent blindness. The most severe eye injuries may even result in the eye having to be removed.

A major eye injury can have a huge impact on your day to day life, and the lives of your loved ones. Loss of sight in particular can make it difficult to perform even the simplest of daily tasks and can significantly affect your ability to work.

If your eye has been injured due to someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation. Give us a call today on 01244 568 535 or email info@whatsmyclaimworth.co.uk

What eye injury do YOU have?

Eye injuries are often caused by the eye area being hit by an object. However, injuries to the eye can also be caused by the following:

  • Burns
  • Small cuts
  • Scratches
  • Irritation from liquids
  • Smoke inhalation

SYMPTOMS

If you have injured your eye you may experience some or all of the following symptoms, depending on how the injury occurred:

If something is stuck in your eye it can cause blurred vision, pain, light sensitivity and watery eyes.

This is an inflammation of the iris and can occur following a blow to the eye.

Symptoms can include impaired vision, an aching sensation, light sensitivity and watery eyes.

If you have a scratch on the cornea (the outer surface of the eye), the symptoms may be similar to having a foreign object stuck in your eye.

This could include a sensation that something is stuck in the eye, increased tearing, sensitivity to light and pain.

If your eye has been injured as a result of chemical exposure, your eye may turn red and the eyelids could become swollen.

You are also likely to feel pain or a burning sensation.

If you have noticed a red area on the eye, it may seem worrying.

However, this is usually due to a burst blood vessel on the eye’s surface and should heal slowly without any symptoms.

An orbital fracture will cause symptoms such as swelling, double vision, pain (particularly when moving your eyes) and bruising.

£1,750 won in compensation!!

Our client suffered an eye injury following a dispensing error at her local pharmacy, where she was given ear drops instead of eye drops.  Our client unknowingly then used the ear drops in her eye and experienced terrible pain. We were able to recover compensation in the sum of £1,750.00 for our client for two weeks of pain and eye redness she experienced following the incident.

WHAT CAUSED your EYE INJURY?

Accidents like these are usually the most avoidable, and employers should always be aware of any potential hazards to ensure your place of work is safe, especially where there is a risk of falling objects or where employees are working with dangerous machinery.

Employers are under a duty to provide you with a safe place of work, so not having appropriate safeguards in place to reduce the risk of falling objects can mean you may be entitled to compensation.

It is important your employer ensures that the way you are working is safe and that you are fully trained to do the job at hand. This is especially important when working with hazardous materials.

Your employer has a duty to provide you with the correct equipment to protect you from injury.

Goggles must be provided if your job involves a risk of your eyes getting injured.

If you have not been provided with PPE or have been provided with broken or inadequate equipment then you may be entitled to compensation.

If you have been involved in a road traffic accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.

This could include an eye injury sustained from small fragments of glass injuring the eye from a smashed windscreen.
