What’s My Claim Worth settled a claim for £25,000 for Mr W, a 28 year old man from Liverpool who sustained a nasty cut to his hand whilst at work. Mr W who worked as a teacher was trying to get from the building he taught in to another building where the kitchen was situated in order to make a hot drink for himself. This meant walking outside and he slipped on a wet step which was slippery from previous rainfall. Mr W was carrying a mug at the time which broke in his hand when he fell, causing a nasty and deep laceration to his hand. Due to the injuries he had to have surgery. He made a considerable recovery and was able to continue in his career of teaching. A claim was brought against his employers as they failed to provide a safe place of work. They initially denied liability [responsibility] arguing there was nothing wrong with the step or the way was constructed or designed. The Solicitor dealing with the claim instructed and obtained a Report from an Engineer who carried out slip resistance tests on the step and found it to be potentially hazardous & dangerous when wet. After realising the evidence against them was too great, his Employers Insurers eventually conceded liability for the accident. Court proceedings were commenced to progress the claim and after negotiations we were very happy to settle the claim for the sum of £25,000.
