A vast amount of us love running or jogging but accidents do happen and you need to keep safe on our roads and pavements. At What’s My Claim Worth we deal with many claims for people who have been injured whilst out for a run. Here are a few top tips to keep you safe on your run:
1. Always run on the pavement if it is available.
2. If you are running on the road run facing the traffic and as far from traffic as possible.
3. Always make eye contact with drivers before crossing the road or wait for them to pass. You must never assume a driver has seen you.
4. If you are running as part of a group always run in single file.
5. If you are running when it is dark make sure you choose a well lit road.
6. Make sure you are visible by wearing bright clothing, reflective high visibility clothing and a head torch at night.
7. Do not wear headphones but if you must run with music, keep the volume very low or just use one headphone so you can still be alert and hear the traffic around you.
8. Use pedestrian crossings when crossing roads – if none are available cross over in a very well lit area.
9. Be alert at all times.
10. Be careful of vehicles entering or exiting driveways or reversing.
