Road Safety Week 2025 – How Safe Vehicles Can Save Lives

Every year, thousands of people in the UK are affected by road accidents,  experiencing everything from minor injuries and life-changing physical harm  to lasting emotional and psychological trauma. At What’s My Claim Worth, we know the impact these accidents can have on individuals and families –  that’s why we’re proud to support Road Safety Week 2025 running from 16th–22nd November and its vital message: ‘Safe Vehicles Save Lives’.

Lives Affected by Road Collisions

Each year, over 1,700 people lose their lives on UK roads, and around 30,000 suffer serious, life-altering injuries. These figures are alarming, and sadly, there has been little improvement over the past decade.

This Road Safety Week, we want to make sure that every time you get in a vehicle, you’re as safe as possible because safe vehicles save lives.

Steps you can take to make sure your vehicle is safe

Regularly Maintain Your Vehicle

Keeping your vehicle in good condition ensures vital systems like brakes, steering, and the engine remain reliable.

Make sure you book routine services, check dashboard warnings promptly, and top up essential fluids (engine oil, coolant, wiper fluid).

Inspect Your Tyres

Proper tyre pressure and tread depth are key for good grip, safe handling and shorter stopping distances.

Check tyre pressure monthly or before long journeys, use the 20p test to ensure tread depth meets UK standards (1.6mm minimum) and look for cracks or uneven wear.

Check Your Brakes

Healthy brakes are essential for safe stopping – especially in emergency situations.

Listen for grindings or squeaking noises, check brake pads regularly (ask your mechanic if unsure) and monitor brake fluid levels.

Test Lights and Indicators

Good visibility and clear signals help prevent collisions and keep everyone road aware

Check headlights, brake lights, indicators and hazard lights frequently, replace bulbs as soon as they go out and wipe lenses clean to remove dirt or fogging.

How can you get involved

Whether you’ve been directly affected by a road crash or simply want to make a difference, Road Safety Week provides a chance to take meaningful action:
