Knee injury claims

Knee injuries are often the result of sporting accidents, road traffic collisions, accidents at work, slips, trips or falls.
More often than not, it is soft tissue damage as ligaments can get damaged, but occasionally the knee cap can also be fractured or broken.
Knee injuries are a common occurrence in the workplace, usually as a result of slipping or falling. They can also be due to heavy manual lifting, which can put a tremendous strain on the ligaments and muscles around the knee joint.
Knee injuries are not only incredibly painful, but they can also cause major disruption to your daily life. The knee joint is essential for movement and if damaged it can greatly reduce your mobility, making it difficult to walk and move about. This can cause problems with being able to work and could lead to a loss of earnings.

If you have injured your knee as a result of an accident that was not your fault, you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation. Give us a call on freephone 01244 568 535 or email at info@whatsmyclaimworth.co.uk or use our Claims Calculator to see how much your injury may be worth.

What knee injury do you have?

There are many types of knee injury you could sustain including:

A sprain can occur if a ligament in the knee has been overstretched due to a slip, trip or fall.

Bleeding can occur when a ligament is torn.

You may hear a snapping sound when this happens.

A common type of tear is an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The meniscus is a part of the knee that is made of cartilage, which can tear if the knee joint is bent and then twisted forcefully.

These fractures can be serious and often require surgery to repair.

Over time, they may also cause arthritis in the knee.

What are the main symptoms of a knee injury?

If you have injured the ligaments in your knee, sprained or fractured your knee cap, you may experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Pain in the knee

  • Swelling around the knee

  • Instability and unbalance

  • Bruising around the knee

  • Tenderness when touched

  • When ligaments are torn you may hear a snapping or popping sound. If you have a cartilage injury it may feel as if your knee is locking or catching.

WHAT CAUSED YOUR KNEE INJURY?

Slips, trips and falls in public or the workplace can cause many different injuries, including knee injuries.

These accidents can happen as a result of loose carpeting, wet floors or unsuitable footwear.

Accidents like these are usually the most avoidable, and employers should always be aware of any potential slip or trip hazards to ensure your place of work is safe.

Knee injuries can sometimes be caused by being hit by falling objects at work or in public.

Employers are under a duty to provide you with a safe place of work. A lack of training and not having appropriate safeguards in place to reduce the risk of falling objects can mean you may be entitled to compensation.

If you have been involved in a road traffic accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries, including knee injuries, sustained as a result of the incident.

WHat CAN YOU claim?

In a personal injury claim there are two categories of losses you can claim compensation for:-
(1) Compensation for your pain, suffering and loss of amenity, known as ‘General Damages’, to compensate for the direct effects of the accident. The amount depends on the type and severity of the injury, whether surgery was required and how long you suffered from symptoms and any ongoing permanent problems.

(2) Compensation for out of pocket expenses, known as ‘Special Damages’, to compensate for financial losses including loss of earnings, care and assistance from family and friends, medical costs, treatment and any other financial expenses incurred as a result of the accident.
